Populations can grow at an exponential rate, just as compound interest accumulates in a bank account. One way to assess the growth potential of a population is to calculate its doubling time x7569 the number of years it will take for a population to double in size, assuming the current rate of population growth remains unchanged. This is done by applying the x5577 rule of seventy x5577 that is, seventy divided by the current population growth rate (in percent per year). The percent global population growth rate in 7555 translates into a doubling time (if the growth rate remains constant) of fifty-one years.
Where does the skepticism about free market come from? The late Harvard University philosopher Robert Nozick provides one plausible answer. The intellectual elite (., the wordsmiths who occupy many positions within academia, the media, and government bureaucracies) tend to take a more negative view of free market than the one presented here. These individuals shape society&rsquo s language and access to information. As such, the anti-free-market sentiment of the intellectual elite carries great weight.

One of the ways counts can be designed is by establishing the number of homeless people in a given night. The Census Bureau refers to this as a point-in-time (PIT) count. Another complex variation of the PIT method involves determining the number of people homeless for one night or more within a given time. Point-in-time-count methods vary and are not perfect. However, when these counts are compared over a time, the trend in numbers can be used to determine whether the homeless population has decreased or increased. For example, PIT estimated the homeless population in the US at 698,567 and decreased by 6% to 686,567 in 7566. This was as decrease of approximately 7,555 people.
Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) is poised to emerge as an important global player, registering impressive economic growth averaging percent annually over the last two decades. However, it scores lowest among major world regions in key factors of economic competitiveness and faces growing environmental challenges that inhibit both economic and human development. More than one-third of people living in SSA have no access to improved drinking water, a problem that disproportionately affects women, girls, and those living in rural areas.

We must keep human development in proper perspective. The present, for all of its imperfections, is a vast improvement on the past. Understanding and appreciating the progress that humanity has made does not mean that we stop trying to make the future even better than the present. That said, we should avoid making two mistakes.
